  • Cardigan from the GAP, purchased in February 2012, for $60USD
  • VANS sneakers, purchased February 2012 for $45USD

Again, working in the studio, looking very slouchy and wearing what is kind of clean and comfortable.

Closet Consumption: Saturday 29th September, 2012

  • leggings by 2XU - sporty ones
  • oversized tee by NIQUE, $80 AUD purchased last year
  • cardigan from the GAP, $65USD purchased in February, 2012

Closet Consumption: Friday 28th September 2012

Wearing:

  • Dress, handmade by me a couple of years ago
  • Stockings from drugstore
  • Shoes, handmade by local artisan
  • Necklace handmade by local artisan
  • Bag, Marimekko

I had quite a few comments on my dress today.  People are always amazed that I can make my own clothes.   They always think that it is super hard but I often think that people are a bit lazy when it comes to sewing.

Marimekko

Wearing:

  • dress by Marimekko, purchased on sale in June 2012 for $225USD
  • clogs by Ugglebo, handmade
  • necklace from H&M, purchased in March 2012 for $9USD
  • cardigan from Big W, purchased about 7 years ago!

Notes:
I hadn't worn this dress even though I bought it awhile ago, it just hadn't been the weather for it.  First wearing and I can tell that it will be a staple in my warmer weather wardrobe.

I guess that is the problem with purchasing items overseas as you are buying in opposite seasons.

Closet Consumption: Wednesday 26th September, 2012

A bit of classic #marimekko today. Do you need a pocket? I've got pockets!!!!

Wearing:

  • dress by Marimekko, purchased in Boston February 2012, $170USD
  • stockings from drugstore
  • VANS sneakers, purchased in February 2012 for $45USD
  • bag, usual yellow Marimekko bag!

Pockets

I haven't worn this dress that often.  I think mostly has it has a 3/4 sleeve and because it looks weird with a cardigan, it is really only appropriate for semi-warm weather.  I also prefer to wear tights with it as I might expose a little too much leg if I don't!

Other than that, it is very comfortable and pretty cute too!

Closet Consumption: Tuesday 25th September, 2012

Tuesday

Wearing:

  • dress by Marimekko, purchased in August 2011(?)
  • leggings by H&M, purchased in November 2009 for approximately $8USD
  • clogs by Ugglebo, handmade, purchased in March 2012, $160USD

Not much to report on this outfit.  Though I am amazed at how these leggings have held up!  When I bought them, I lived in them while I was travelling and they still fit quite well.  Sometimes you manage to get an item from one of the chain stores that is very good quality, other times you don't!

Closet Consumption: Monday 24th September, 2012

Dress

wearing:
  • dress by Marimekko, purchased in 2009
  • stockings from local drugstore
  • shoes, handmade by local artisan
  • necklace by ELK
  • cowl, handknitted by me!
  • Jacket by NIQUE purchased last winter.

This jersey dress by Marimekko gets so much wear, it's funny as everytime I wear it now, I'm transported back to Christmas 2009 in New York City eating dim sum with my friend Evan.

It's amazing how clothing holds memories.

Closet Consumption: Sunday 23rd September, 2012

Weekend uniform

Wearing:
  • jeans by the GAP, purchased in February 2012 for $60USD
  • t-shirt from Marimekko, purchased in 2009, I actually can't remember how much this was!
  • VANS sneakers, purchased in February 2012, $45USD

Studio day.  Again in my uniform.  Weekends are about what is comfortable and easy.  I usually don't wear makeup either.

Closet Consumption: Saturday 22nd September, 2012

  • t-shirt from H&M, purchased in August 2010 for $8USD

I didn't get a photo of what I was wearing.  I pretty much was slouching around in my usual weekend uniform:  stripey tee, jeans, vans... oh, so predictable!

Do you have a uniform?

Dress
What I'm wearing today.

Wearing:
dress that I made myself in early 2009.
stockings from drugstore
shoes, handmade from local artisan, purchased in January 2010.

san jose museum of art 40th anniversary 002
October 2009 on my way to the San Jose Museum of Modern Art 40th Anniversary celebrations

ikea dress 002
When I made the dress in 2008.

Notes:
It's amazing how much wear this dress has had and how many comments it gets!  I have worn it from exhibition openings, to formal events in USA, to the Boston Symphony and to work!  I bought the fabric from Ikea and it probably cost about $25AUD to make but it has certainly paid off.

September Consumption: Jumpsuit...

Jumpsuit

I bought a jumpsuit.
I bought a jumpsuit on Ebay.
It's new with tags, it's by Marimekko but I've never tried it on.

It's on it's way from New York.  Gosh, I hope that it fits.

I did go into a bidding frenzy on this item, someone outbid me with 13 seconds to go but I won!  It cost $70USD.

This could go two ways.  I could either look amazing and stylish.  Or I could look like a clown.

We will see...

Closet Consumption: Tuesday 18th September, 2012

Closet Consumption: Sunday 16th September, 2012

Like yesterday, I didn't leave the house.  It's funny how when you are sick, your clothes tend to reflect this!

I have had very cold feet and decided to wear my very ugly hand knitted slippers that I made the last time I was sick.

Home sick: I made these house slippers - they're ugly but super comfy and warm! And they took 1.5 hours to knit! #knitgeek

They are ugly but good value!

Closet Consumption: Saturday 15th September, 2012

I am still battling with illness!  I pretty much stayed in bed in my pjs.
I didn't take a photo of that, but it is an old t-shirt and underwear generally.

Closet Consumption: Friday 14th September, 2012

Marimekko

Wearing:

  • cotton dress by Marimekko, bought on sale in June(?) this year.
  • stockings from local drugstore
  • shoes, handmade by local artisan, purchased in January 2010 for $160AUD
  • Jacket by NIQUE, purchased last winter
  • cowl, handknitted by me
  • Yellow Marimekko bag - yet again!

Notes:
I've only worn this dress a couple of times, mostly because I need to buy a slip to wear with it.  The fabric tends to catch on my tights.  It would be fine without tights but obviously it has been far too cold to do that.  Other than that, the dress fits great and is very comfortable to wear.

Closet Consumption: Thursday 13th September, 2012

Striped

Wearing:
  • dress by Marimekko, purchased recently
  • handmade shoes, purchased in January 2010.
  • necklace by ELK, purchased in August, 2012

I adore the stripey dress, it has definitely become a staple in my closet!  Comfy, cute, bright.  It ticks all the boxes.  It is also completely made in Finland.  Go Finland!

I have still been unwell...

I did have to go to the Doctors today and ended up throwing on what I wore to brunch on Sunday.

Bless the Marimekko striped tshirt for always making me feel awesome!

Jeans by Gap, purchased February 2012

Wednesday, 5 September 2012

Closet Consumption: Thursday 6 September, 2012

Wearing:
Dress by Marimekko, purchased online in August, 2012 for approximately $220USD
stockings from local drugstore
Ugglebo clogs, handmade in Sweden, purchased in March for $160USD
Bag, usual yellow Marimekko.

Notes:
this is the first time that I have worn this dress.  It's quite a boxy shape and to be honest, if I hadn't bought it on the internet, I probably would of gone down a size.  Oh well.  It's quite a bold print too and today I felt like I needed a big print to kinda wake me up!

My black clogs get such a bashing!  I adore them and hope that I can get another pair when these ones die.

Closet Consumption: Wednesday 5th September, 2012

Wednesday

Wearing:
dress by Marimekko, purchased in March 2011

stockings from local drugstore

Shoes by Dianna Ferrari, purchased on sale for approximately $50AUD

Necklace by ELK, purchased in August 2012 for $40AUD

Shoes

Notes:
I adore this dress!  It's so comfortable and light, teamed with a pair of bright stockings it definitely gets attention.  It has washed and worn very well.

Shoes, another pair of my 'cheapo' shoes.  I think that these will be going soon too.  I really need to stop getting these types of shoes as they just don't last.

Purchases Total: August, 2012

Going back over what I added to my closet for the month of August 2012:

4 x Marimekko Dresses - total of $656USD
2 x Artisan Necklaces made by local artist, purchased on vacation in Hobart - total of $100AUD
4 x pair of socks, purchased at Target for total $15AUD
1 x wooden ELK necklace, $45AUD
4 x pairs of stockings, approx $30AUD

Total cost:  $846.  Unfortunately this is a fifth of my salary!!!  This needs to change.

What have I made to wear?  Nothing!  This definitely needs to change!

Have I sold anything or donated any clothing?  I haven't sold anything but I have donated a bag of handbags that I don't use anymore and some tops etc.  I am trying to purge my closet of crappy clothes!

There have been 1 tshirt and an old pair of pjs that have been added to the rag bag.  They had gotten so thin and were about 5 to 6 years old.  They weren't even comfortable for bed anymore so they are now used to polish shoes etc.

Closet Consumption: Tuesday 4th September, 2012

Was all about black and white today... I need to sew some more!

  Wearing:
  • dress, handmade by me from cotton gingham fabric in approximately 2009?
  • stockings from local drugstore
  • handmade shoes by local bootmaker, purchased about 3 years ago for $150AUD
  • cardigan from Uniqlo, purchased in February 2012 for $20USD
  • necklace, wood, made by local artisan, purchased in July 2012 for $35AUD
  • Bag, usual yellow Marimekko bag.

Tuesday

Notes:
This is one of my favourite dress patterns to work from and this dress has definitely had it's fair share of wear!  I wear it a lot during the warmer months as it is cotton and breathes well but also the cotton is of such a weave that it doesn't seem to crease too much.

Wearing it has made me think that I need to sew more.  I have been quite swamped with art projects at the moment.

Monday, 3 September 2012
